Miller Place Claims NYS Division II Dual Meet Wrestling Title Over Shoreham-Wading River

Miller Place High School delivered a championship performance on the state’s biggest stage, defeating fellow Section XI powerhouse Shoreham‑Wading River High School, 45–24, to capture the NYS Division II Dual Meet Wrestling Championship.

The victory not only crowned Miller Place as state champions, but also highlighted the strength of Suffolk County wrestling, as two Section XI programs met with a title on the line.

Miller Place set the tone early and never relinquished momentum, earning bonus points in key bouts and capitalizing on pins throughout the middle and upper weights. Nicolo Dolson opened the dual in dominant fashion at 110 pounds, scoring a technical fall (20–5) over Bradley Brandt to give MP an early edge.

Shoreham-Wading River answered with back-to-back wins at 118 and 126, as Thomas Matias earned a major decision and Shane Cowan followed with a narrow 3–0 decision. From there, however, Miller Place began to separate itself.

Brett Winslow (132) and Charles Clifford (138) secured critical victories, with Clifford earning a sudden-victory decision in one of the dual’s most competitive matches. Alex Southworth then ignited the Miller Place bench with a pin at 144 pounds, shifting the momentum firmly in MP’s favor.

While SWR showed resilience with pins from Gavin Mangano (150), Jacob Conti (157), and a technical fall by John O’Neil (165), Miller Place responded emphatically down the stretch. Jack Miller (175), Brice Browning (190), and Bradyn Ellis (285) each recorded pins, sealing the championship and turning a close contest into a decisive final score.

Andrew Bennett-Guma’s hard-fought 4–2 decision at 215 pounds added to the championship total, underscoring Miller Place’s depth across the lineup.
