Section XI Milestones: Congrats, Ava! Port Jeffersonâs Ava Reilly has reached an incredible milestone: 2,000 career assists! The John Glenn High School girls volleyball team earned a 3-0 victory over Wyandanch recently, but the true highlight of the evening extended far beyond the scoreboard.
While the Knights secured a straight-set win, the match became a celebration of sportsmanship, camaraderie, and the unifying power of athletics. Players from both teams danced, laughed, and bonded together after the game, creating an atmosphere that underscored the deeper values of high school athletics.
The joy shared on the court reflected the essence of interscholastic sports, bringing students together through competition, while also building respect, friendships, and memories that last long after the final whistle.
The Lindenhurst Girls Varsity Volleyball team, led by Coach Kait Williams, hosted a teacher appreciation event during a match this month.
It’s with great sadness that Section XI mourns the loss Sachem teacher and coach Matt “Dezy” DiStefano.
The founder of the “Dezy Strong Foundation has left a lasting impact on the Section XI region for all that he has done in motivating student-athletes and coaches.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Matt’s family and friends during this difficult time.
