It’s that time of year where Suffolk County schools are taking to their own halls of fame to induct legendary coaches and athletes from their communities.
Recently there were inductions at Bayport-Blue Point East Hampton, Kings Park, Northport and Sachem.
Here’s a look at the inductees for each …
“The inductees of the Class of 2017 are now where they belong, alongside the very best that has competed or coached here at Kings Park,” said Bill Denniston, Director of Athletics at Kings Park. “This year’s class is the second largest ever inducted into our athletic hall of fame and is special with the first class with two teams being inducted and the first family ever inducted. ”
The 2017 Section XI fall girls tennis playoff brackets are available!
Playoffs begin on Tuesday, October 17.
At the October 7, 2017, Bay Shore junior varsity football game against Smithtown East, there was a very special moment just after the second half started. Ramel Johnson, a sophomore at Bay Shore High School, was given the ball for the first play of the half.
Ramel is a special education student with multiple learning and cognitive disabilities, who had a dream of playing football. After he showed up for tryouts at the beginning of the season, the administration, teaching staff and coaching staff at Bay Shore worked together to ensure he could be part of the team.
Members of the JV football team embraced Ramel, and helped him learn the sport and feel welcome on the team. When approached in the days leading up to the game about running a special play, the Smithtown East coaching staff and players showed tremendous grace in agreeing to allow Ramel to have a shining moment at Bay Shore’s last JV home game of the season.
As Ramel ran 50 yards down the field to score a touchdown, the two teams came together to show that some things are bigger than the game.

Via Amityville Schools …
More than 100 Amityville Memorial High School students have learned life-saving skills through the First Aid/CPR course, and for one senior that training recently paid off.
Dennis Cisneros, who took the half-year course in spring 2016 as a sophomore, used his training last month to assist a co-worker who suffered a medical emergency. During a work shift as a server at a restaurant in Farmingdale, a fellow employee passed out in the bathroom from an apparent overdose. Dennis administered CPR, giving the victim chest compressions and mouth-to-mouth resuscitation until first responders arrived. His immediate intervention contributed to his co-worker’s survival.
The names alone are enough to turn heads and raise ears. Tim Tebow, Odell Beckham Jr, Adrian Peterson, and Andrew Luck are all on the list of former high school All-Americans. And now, Lindenhurst tight end Jeremy Ruckert is among them. Ruckert, who was selected to play in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl on Jan. 6 in the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas, received his jersey at a ceremony at Lindenhurst High School Monday afternoon.
We’re about a month into the regular season for fall sports and the standings are heating up across Section XI.
