Miller Place’s Shane Kiernan Reaches 6,000 Career Passing Yards

Miller Place senior quarterback Shane Kiernan reached a major career milestone during Week 8, surpassing 6,000 career passing yards. The accomplishment caps an impressive regular season and highlights an outstanding high school career as a Panthers’ offensive leader.

He also has 68 career touchdown passes.

But Kiernan isn’t done yt. Kiernan has been one of Suffolk County’s most consistent and dynamic passers, helping guide Miller Place into the Suffolk County playoffs once again.

For context, the Long Island and Suffolk County all-time career passing record is 9,787 yards, set by Sayville’s Jack Coan from 2013 to 2016.

Congratulations to Shane Kiernan on this epic achievement … and best of luck to him and the Panthers as they continue their playoff run!

Heart-Stopping Finish: Mount Sinai Triumphs Over Bayport-Blue Point with Game-Winning Field Goal

The following story was filed by Section XI student reporter Jacob Mendelson.

The Mount Sinai Mustangs capped off a thrilling night of football with a dramatic 22-yard game-winning field goal by Alexander Bottomley as time expired, sealing a 16-13 victory over Bayport-Blue Point on October 24.

The Mustangs entered the matchup riding the momentum of two convincing wins — a 31-6 Homecoming victory over Kings Park and a 35-13 triumph against Center Moriches. Facing one of the division’s top teams, the Mount Sinai community packed the stands and was rewarded with a nail-biting finish that showcased grit, poise, and teamwork.

Quarterback Max Sorrentino led the way offensively, completing 13 of 15 passes for 225 yards. He connected on a 70-yard touchdown strike to Nicholas Vaccaro and added three passes for 80 yards to Dontae Spadaro, who also rushed for 48 yards. Sorrentino’s 1-yard touchdown run in the third quarter tied the game, setting the stage for Bottomley’s clutch kick in the final seconds.

On defense, Ethan Arita anchored the Mustang front with two sacks, helping contain the high-powered Bayport-Blue Point offense.

For Bayport-Blue Point, the loss marked their second straight after starting the season 5-1. The Phantoms had dominated Mount Sinai 41-10 in last year’s season finale, but this time the Mustangs flipped the script with a complete team effort.

Mount Sinai, now 5-2, looks to continue its strong play as it prepares to face Hampton Bays (2-5) on October 30, before closing out the regular season against Shoreham-Wading River on November 7.
