Bridgehampton, Hampton Bays Baseball Play to Support AD Mike DeRosa

Mike DeRosa has ties to the Bridgehampton and Hampton Bays communities, so it is heartwarming to see the baseball programs rally to support one of their own.

DeRosa, the athletic director and a physical education teacher at Bridgehampton, and a Hampton Bays alumnus and resident, was recently diagnosed with Stage 4 glioblastoma and underwent emergency surgery to remove a cancerous tumor in his brain.

Fans and community members pledged a donation for each strikeout and base hit the Killer Bees recorded during the series. At the end of the series, donors tallied up the pledges and made the corresponding donation via Venmo or check.

There is also a community-driven GoFundMe that has generated more than $155,000 for the DeRosa family so far.

Section XI sends its thoughts and prayers to the DeRosa family during this difficult time.

Team Up 4 Community: Long Island Holiday Sports Heroes Video Challenge

Are you a L.I. athlete, team or organization that involves athletes, ages 6-24 YO, in giving back to your community? If so, Team Up 4 Community wants to hear from you!

We are challenging our L.I. Athletes to be a Sports Hero to a cause or someone in need this 2020 Holiday Season and see how big of an IMPACT we can make together in our L.I. Communities!

All those who enter have a chance to receive a scholarship or grant.

$5,000 in Scholarships & Grants will be awarded!

  • First Place Winner receives a $3,000 scholarship or grant.
  • Second Place Winner receives a $1,500 scholarship or grant.
  • Third Place Winner receives a $500 scholarship or grant.

TO ENTER:

  1. Challenge opens November 1st, 2020
  2. LOG IN / SIGN UP for an account on www.TeamUp4Community.org
  3. ADD AN EVENT Fill in the information about your community service project with a link to a YouTube URL VIDEO of your work. (Projects can be performed anytime between September 1st 2020 to December 11th 2020)
  4. Be sure to choose from the EVENT CONTEST drop-down menu L.I. Holiday Sports Heroes Challenge.
  5. SHARE your Entry with Friends, Family, Teammates etc. to Support you and let them know about the great work you have done. The more you share, the more VOTES you can receive!

All entries must be received by December 11th, 2020.

Voting will take place starting at 9am EST on December 14th, 2020 and will end at 8pm EST on December 18th, 2020.

Winners will be Announced on December 21st, 2020.

** You can VOTE for as many entries as you choose, but only one VOTE can be cast per entry per day per valid email address.

** A valid email address is required to validate your vote.

** Voters are only allowed to enter an email address on behalf of themselves.
