Central Islip’s Ciara Solomon rolled a perfect 300 game and won the Suffolk County Singles Bowling Tournament. Congrats, Ciara!
Please join us in congratulating the December Section XI-Island Federal student-athlete nominees!
*Naomi Chon of Half Hollow Hills had an excellent fencing season and career for the Cougars. She finished as the No. 1 Suffolk Epee Fencer and had an overall record of 19-2. In addition to her work on the strip, she participates in a cultural unity group called AASO and is a straight “A” student!
*Helena Roy of Center Moriches was a staple on the girls cross country team. Along with her blazing 5K times, she has a 99.73 GPA (👀!) and is an International Baccalaureate Diploma Candidate.
Both Naomi and Helena are now on the Section XI-Island Federal Scholar-Athlete Watch List and are in contention to receive our Scholar-Athlete Scholarship in June of 2022!
If you know an outstanding scholar-athlete from Section XI, please send us a brief nomination through direct message on the Island Federal Instagram account.

At the Suffolk County singles/doubles bowling tournament, Longwood senior, Katelyn Wheeler, bowled her SECOND 300 game of the season.
She is the first female bowler in Longwood history to roll a perfect 300 in a match and is believed to be the first female from Longwood to accomplish this twice as well. This is a feat that has not been achieved in Suffolk County girls bowling since the 2016-2017 season.
Wheeler is a returning All-County and All-Long Island bowler for the Lions and was named one of Newsday’s Top 25 girls bowlers for the second year in a row.
All first round matches took place on Wednesday, January 19. The brackets have been updated.
Semifinal and championship matches will be on Saturday, January 22.

Section XI is proud to announce Spartan X Apparel as a new partner.
Section XI is sad to learn about the passing of former East Islip cheerleader Carli Fragala, who died after a battle with brain cancer.
Her impact on the cheerleading community was evident in the love and support shown throughout her journey.
You’ll be missed, Carli.

On Saturday, March 26th the Suffolk County Council of Boy Scouts of America and the Andrew McMorris Foundation will host Andrew’s Top Gun Run to raise the funds for Scholarships and Scouterships.
In September of 2018, Boy Scout Troop 161 was hiking the Greenbelt Trail when a drunk driver tragically hit them.
