Section XI Schools Light Up Fields for Class of 2020
We will never forget the moments that impacted 2020, but especially how our student-athletes and seniors had to endure an abrupt end to their scholastic experiences.
On Friday, May 1 a number of schools across Section XI – and the rest of Long Island – lit up their fields and scoreboards to show their love and support for the Class of 2020.
This was a social media experience as districts and athletic directors posted photos on various digital platforms.
Here’s a look at many of our member schools and their tributes:

A Message from Section XI Executive Director Tom Combs
On behalf of Section XI and all of our Athletic Directors throughout Suffolk County, we join the 60,000 plus student-athletes who are dealing with a difficult time.
To our Spring student-athletes, especially our seniors, we wish you were out there competing in the sports that you love.
We have enjoyed watching you compete over the years and wish you well in your future endeavors.
We know you will always represent Section XI proudly at every level. Stay safe and stay healthy! – Tom Combs
Here’s to the Class of 2020
A number of school districts across Section XI will pay tribute to their Class of 2020 student-athletes who were unable to play their seasons this spring.
Their athletic directors and administrations will turn on stadium lights and put 2020 across the scoreboard as a sign of respect and gratitude for the student-athletes, coaches and programs for all they mean to their communities. They may not be able to play this spring, but they still represent us proudly.
PLEASE NOTE: Stay home and enjoy this tribute via social media, not in person. These are meant to be digitally shared via photos, so be on the look out for your district athletics and athletic director accounts on social media.
Honoring Section XI Senior Student-Athletes

Section XI Cancels 2020 Spring Sports Season
After much discussion and consideration, the Section XI Athletic Council has voted unanimously to cancel the spring sports season for 2020 at all levels.
This decision was made in the best interest of the health and safety of all of our student-athletes, staffs and communities.
The decision was not an easy one to make, however, in what the world is experiencing at this time, it is the most prudent decision to make.
