Suffolk’s Jeremy Ruckert represented Long Island football in a big way when he played in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl last weekend in Texas.
He only had one pass thrown his way, but did set a massive block that lead to a 44-yard rush.
He will play his next football for Ohio State as the No. 1 ranked tight end recruit in the nation.
Ruckert helped his Lindenhurst football team capture a Class I Long Island championship this year.
We are saddened by the passing of long time Suffolk County athletic director, Jay “Doc” Holiday.
Holiday was an athletic director in Kings Park and Islip.
Arrangements for Doc’s wake and funeral have been announced. The wake is Sunday from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. The service will be on Monday morning at 11 a..m. at the funeral home.
Services will be at Branch Funeral Home, 190 E. Main St., in Smithtown.
It was a pleasure to see the Cutinella Family recognized as “Game Changers” in 2017 for the work they did with The Thomas Cutinella Memorial Foundation, as well as overall awareness and policy changes reflected for high school football across the state and region.
Frank and Kelli Cutinella have done much more than that as well.

Sayville native Jack Coan and Wisconsin won the Orange Bowl on Saturday night. The Badgers beat Miami, 34-24.
Coan, a backup quarterback as a true freshman, did not play in the bowl game.
He saw action in parts of seven games, going 5-for-5 passing and throwing for 36 yards.
The 13 wins for Wisconsin this year are a program record.
Coan is one of the most prolific passing quarterbacks in Long Island and New York State history.
Congratulations to John Glenn’s Nathaniel Larkins for signing his National Letter of Intent to attend and play football at the United States Army at West Point.
Good luck to Nathaniel as he pursues his dreams in representing our nation!

Westhampton Beach football star Dylan Laube inks his Letter of Intent with the University of New Hampshire on Wednesday morning. Another Suffolk product playing Division I sports.
Laube is fresh of a Hansen Award-winning season after leading his Hurricanes to a Long Island crown.
He joins Sachem North alum Dalton Crossan as the latest Long Island product to play for the Wildcats. Crossan starred as a threat on offense and special teams in New Hampshire and signed with the Indianapolis Colts this past summer.
We wish all of our Section XI student-athletes success on the next level.

The top football players, coaches and team were honored at the annual Suffolk County Football Coaches Association dinner on Monday, December 4 at the Hyatt Regency.
Here is a run down of all the honors:
Suffolk and Nassau split the football Long Island championship bouts this past weekend.
Lindenhurst and Westhampton Beach rang supreme on Sunday, while Garden City beat North Babylon and Seaford narrowly edged Miller Place on Saturday.
Fans who attended Sunday’s games at Stony Brook were treated to some incredible football.
Westhampton’s Dylan Laube rushed for six touchdowns and netted 47 total touchdowns for the season, breaking a record held for 13 seasons by North Babylon’s Jason Gwaltney. The Hurricanes beat Lawrence 54-26.
Laubed finished the game with 25 carries and 229 yards. He also finished his career with 2,682 yards, the third highest rushing total in Long Island history.
In Class I, Lindenhurst captured glory after bearing Oceanside, 40-23.
Jeremy Ruckert, who will play his next football game as a member of the Ohio State Buckeyes, was in prime form dominating in all areas of the game. He was a threat on offense, blocked a field goal and kicked a 30-yard field goal of his own as well.
The Hansen Winner – the honor given to the top football player in Suffolk County – will be crowned on Monday, December 4. Ruckert and Laube are the favorites, of course.
This was the first Long Island championship for both Suffolk schools.
