Each week Section XI will announce a male and female athlete of the week. Nominees are submitted by school district athletic directors.
The athletes of the week this week are:
Female Athlete of the Week: Samantha Schultz, Kings Park
Kings Park has a 19-2 overall record as of February 17, and Sam Schultz has a lot to do with that. During one stretch of the season, she was averaging 27.6 points and 13 rebounds per game and those numbers held up pretty much the entire season. She is one of the top players on Long Island and should be a dominant force as the playoffs progress.
Male Athlete of the Week: Ahkee Anderson, Greenport
For the second year running, Ahkee Anderson is one of the top boys basketball players in Suffolk County. He ranks in the top 10 in the county in scoring with a points per game average of 22.5. In a first round playoff victory for the Porters, Anderson had 17 points and nine assists.

The Islip High School Hall of Fame’s first group of honorees – Fred Biangardi, Dr. Jeffrey A. Goldstein, Michael Patrovich, John Veryzer and Tom Veryzer – were inducted on Dec. 7 in a special gala presentation in the school auditorium.
The Hall of Fame initiative’s goal is to continue to provide students with a sense of school and community pride while recognizing distinguished members of the school community who have made notable contributions to society.
Most of those inaugural inductees have a connection to high school sports.
