The Section XI boys and girls badminton season will run from May 5 to May 28.
The regular season will be followed by an individual tournament with the first round on June 2 and semis and finals on June 3.

Section XI Girls, Boys Track and Field Schedules Released
Section XI boys and girls spring track and field schedules are available.
The season will run from May 3 to June 5.
Division championships will be held June 7-12 and the Section XI championships are June 17-19.

SWR Hosts Section XI Athletics For All Event
Thursday was a gorgeous day for another Section XI Athletics For All event.
Thank you to Shoreham-Wading River High School for hosting the cross country fun run.
All participants had a positive experience.

NFHS Learning Center Adds Course on Implicit Bias
The National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) has launched “Implicit Bias” – a new free course offering produced in collaboration with Project Implicit through the online NFHS Learning Center.
In contrast to explicit biases, which are the overt thoughts and actions that impact perception, decision-making and behavior, the “Implicit Bias” course focuses on the more subtle, automatic reactions toward other people generated from past learning and expectations. In many cases, people don’t know they have implicit biases, leading to unintentional discrimination based on factors such as race, gender, disability and sexuality that continue to have implications for understanding disparities in society.

Section XI Mourns Loss of Baseball Coaching Legend Bill Batewell
Section XI is deeply saddened about the loss of baseball coaching legend Bill Batewell. He passed away in January after battling cancer and COVID-19.
The former Sachem and Bellport coaching great is one of the winningest high school baseball coaches in New York history. He won 558 games, including 452 with Sachem.
His Sachem teams won county titles in 1987 and 1979 and he had numerous former student-athletes play professionally.
A memorial will be held this summer in his honor. More details to follow.
