Athletic directors from across Section XI gathered Thursday, October 15, for a Mandatory Rules Workshop with New York State Public High School Athletic Association Executive Director Robert Zayas and Assistant Director Todd Nelson.

The workshop updated athletic directors on changes and modifications to the rules governing interscholastic athletics, helping ensure they have the information needed to lead their schools’ athletic programs.

The gathering also recognized schools for their academic and sportsmanship achievements through three NYSPHSAA awards.

Schools of Distinction honors recognized schools where 100% of varsity teams earned Scholar-Athlete awards. Schools of Excellence honors recognized schools where at least 75% of varsity teams earned that designation. The event also celebrated NYSPHSAA Sportsmanship Award winners for their commitment to sportsmanship.

The event brought Section XI’s athletic leaders together to stay informed, share in the accomplishments of their school communities and reinforce the importance of education and character in school sports.
