Southampton School District’s Director of Athletics Darren Phillips has been named the New York State president for the Council of Administrators. In this two-year role, he will represent the council at meetings of the New York State Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance.
“I am honored to serve, and I look forward to working with directors of physical education and health across New York State,” he said.
Phillips, of Southampton, has served as Southampton’s athletics director for the past 24 years, during which time he has worked tirelessly to bolster the district’s athletic program. In the past, he has been recognized as the NYS AHPERD Director of the Year.
He has also served as the Suffolk Zone president for the Council of Administrators, co-chaired the Southampton School District Wellness Committee, and has spoken at the NYS AHPERD conference multiple times. He previously earned the Suffolk Zone award for Director of the Year.
Phillips holds a bachelor’s degree from Wake Forest University and a master’s from the University of Richmond.
